The Reed Girl

The Reed Girl. One of the short stories in a book I've had since I was little called The Kingdom Under The Sea by Joan Aiken and with some very nice silhouette illustrations by Jan Pienkowski.

I've always liked the idea of a reed girl and my version of her is very far removed from the story.

It's basically about a prince whose been told he's got to get married, but he'll only marry the most beautiful woman in the world (as they do) and he goes in search of this girl, conveniantly overcoming a few obstacles and eventually finds three reeds. He splits one open and a beautiful girl emerges and asks for some water, but since he doesn't have any she dies!! He does this with the second reed as well, and by the time he gets to the third one she's more beautiful than the previous two and he finally gets some water so she lives and they get married and live happily ever after and the prince got what he wanted but lost a hand in the process. Figures.

I'd like the Reed Girl to have a personality. I've been drawing her for a while now, and she's had different coloured hair every time.
